WHO WE ARE
5 17 Ministries was launched in October of 2019 with the sole purpose to disciple the youth in Entebbe, Uganda.Chris is from the United States but has lived overseas now since 2016. Chris had always had a heart for missions and when the Lord called him to Uganda he knew eventually he would call this place home. When he first came to Uganda in 2017 he came serving as an overseer in Childrens ministry. While serving here Chris met his now wife Imelda who is a native of this beautiful country. Imelda has been in Ministry since she was a little girl and has served faithfully within the church here.
God has been doing amazing things here in Uganda and were so blessed to be a part of His work here in Entebbe, Uganda.
WHAT WE DO
As Imelda and I reflected on our lives we were reminded of all the amazing people God placed in our lives to get us where we are today. Here in Uganda youth ranging from 12-18 years of age are in school for 10-12 hours a day and have little to no time for themselves and most return to broken homes, abuse, no father figure or spiritual leader in the house. We believe this is why God placed this age group and type of ministry on our hearts to share and to empower the next generation. Just as we both received discipleship we to want to pass this on to the next generation. We are both believers in building relationship first and learning about each other then having the opportunity to disciple and grow deeper with one another. This what 5 17 ministries is all about, growing deeper with one another and being able to use this relationship to grow into a deeper relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God in his great Commission charges us not only to preach the Gospel but also to disciple.
DISCIPLESHIP
Our core of what we do stems from discipleship and building relationship with the youth that come through our doors. Building trust and relationship is key for us to engage and pour into our youth.
Sports Outreach
Sports are an amazing way to reach the youth and it opens the door for us to build relationships. We currently have 3 teams called "NEW CREATION FC"
SKILLS TRAINING
We believe that every person should obtain some kind of skill. In Uganda a lot of kids cannot afford college and turn to vocational schools. So we train and equip our youth with different skills to be able to support themselves if school isn't an option.
We have a specific Resource center teaching (computers, tailoring and salon)
Young Adults Ministry
Every Friday evening we have something we call "YOUTH CONNECT" This is a time where young adults can come and fellowship, get a meal and have time to discuss different biblical topics as a group.
WEEKLY SCHEDULE
Tuesday - Staff meeting/ planning for the week, evening bible study
Wednesday- Morning Bible study, teen program, church
Thursday- Home visitation, Sports Outreach
Friday- Youth Connect ( young adult ministry)
Saturday- Teen program, sports training
